The context

Since joining Team WaR in 2020, I have had the responsibility for leading the design team and working on creative direction of the organisation. Since 2024, it has been a collaborative effort with Caleb Gardner, the senior designer.

The concept

A collection of designs spanning from 2020 until the present day. Initially, Swiss Style was the primary inspiration so that Team WaR had a consistent style for the first time. Almost every season, the ‘style’ has changed to keep pace with the fast-moving world of esports, with themes including ‘The Dark Side’ and ‘Prestige’. The introduction of [ancient] Roman themes and brand assets in 2020 have been the constant tie between the ‘styles’, ensuring brand recognition.

2024-25

An evolution of the previous direction, moving away from natural tones in favour of Team WaR’s primary colours. The layout shifts to a film poster style to emphasise importance, while the primary typeface is refined to introduce a greater sense of elegance. Design often feature statues for situational significance.

2022-23

A prestigious feel with a focus on architecture. Implementing scenes and colours of nature to compliment Team WaR's typical palette to evoke a sense of beauty and class.

2021–22

Team WaR had a target on their back after winning COD Challengers Champs in 2020. The theme to follow was 'The Dark Side' - embracing their villain era. Graphically, this was achieved with a grunge-collage aesthetic.

2020–21

When I first joined, Team WaR had no set style or guidelines. Based on their values, I took a minimal approach by taking inspiration from International Typographic Style (Swiss Style). I intentionally put more emphasis on the players and the location of each tournament. This was to ensure that each graphic was unique in its own right.
